"South Beach Style"

Merino Wool Cardigan, Victoria's Secret
Fall into South Beach Style this Autumn

It’s that time of year again on the beach. September brings with it shorter days, longer nights and a brand new season to contend with. Autumn is a time for transition, and while we’re not quite ready to completely abandon our summer attire (after all, the temperatures are still soaring) there’s an undeniable urge to incorporate some fall flair into our wardrobes. Here are some quick tips to carry you though the season:

Cardigans:
Although temperatures are on the rise at the beach, cardigans pair nicely with camis, tanks or short-sleeved shirts to provide a little layered defense against frigid air conditioning. In Rochester, you can extend your summer tops well into the fall season by pairing them up with these cozy staples. We love these adorable little tops so much because they are ultra-feminine and they add a sophisticated polished look to virtually anything. Whether you prefer the classic cover-up or the trendier cropped version, this fall staple is here to stay.

See-Through Clothing:
Play peek-a-boo and have fun this fall with airy sheer tops. These tops can be found in a variety of styles ranging from long-sleeve dress shirts to short-sleeve t-shirts, and in every color and texture imaginable. Whichever version you choose, this trend effortlessly adds extra mileage to your basic summer tanks by creating a layered look. Paired with a skirt or tailored denim, this combo has a seductive appeal.

One-Shouldered Tops and Dresses:
Who said goddesses were only allowed to shine during the summer months? This style is sticking around for Fall 2009. Tops can be paired with just about any type of bottom you can imagine to create a classy chic look. Try one today with skinny jeans and a sky-high pair of stilettos or boots. Dresses can be worn comfortably much later into the season if you pair them with leggings- and when it comes to leggings, don’t be afraid to experiment with color and texture this fall.

Stocking and Tights:
Put those basic nude stockings and black tights away! This season it is all about pizzazz! Look for rich colors such as dazzling magenta, chocolate brown, slate gray or navy blue. For added style, look for a pair textured with ribs or designs. Bonus: Wear with peep-toe shoes for a bold daring look. Be sure there is some contrast between your tights and shoes. You want the world to know you’re making a fashion statement; not committing a faux pas.

Accessorize:
Add instant style to practically anything with the right accessories. Carry a summer vibe well into fall with colorful jewelry and/or headbands. Sling a chunky belt around your hips or add a soft scarf to personalize your look and provide added warmth from air conditioning or plummeting temperatures. Capes and wool ponchos are also very trendy this fall. Wear them for work and play, but because of the loose fit, be sure you pair them with fitted bottoms to avoid looking frumpy.

Fall Makeup Flash:
The word this fall is sultry. Whether you’re headed to work, a cocktail party, a dinner with friends or glamming up for a big night out on the town, this season your makeup should “pop.” Fall 2009 is all about rich, lush colors. Although makeup trends this fall are bold, try to focus on either the eyes or the lips, never both. Play one up while keeping the other neutral. Think alluring earth tones, such as luscious brown, mossy green or a commanding copper. Want to instantly feel like royalty? Try swiping a velvety plum shadow over your lids, paired with a sheer pink lip-gloss. Looking for something subtle, but still want to turn heads? Try a metallic gold or bronze. These colors are soft and neutral, but the shimmer gives them an edge. Also, don’t be afraid to get a little playful with your nail polish. Bold colors are sticking around once again. Try a deep navy blue or an electrifying eggplant purple. And yes, black is still the new red.

With shorter days, longer nights, cooler temperatures mean endless wardrobe combinations. Dare to be bold and stand out this season. No matter where you’re headed in Fall ‘09, be sure you make the transition in South Beach Style!
