"Tricks of the Trade"

Ruched Tankini, Shape FX
Become A "Beach Bombshell" At Any Size

With celeb-perfect bikini bodies gracing the covers of magazines already, you cringe at the mere thought of seeing yourself in a tank top and shorts, let alone a swimsuit! It’s time to get beach ready, and there’s no better time to start than right now.

The key to finding the right swimsuit is to play up your best features while playing down those you love the least. The most basic trick is to wear a suit that complements your body, but there is still more that a girl can do to make herself look and feel good before stepping into the dressing room.

There is nothing that’s going to get you looking hotter in that swimsuit than exercise. No time to exercise? Try “Fit Flops” or “Shape Up” sneakers to slim and tone while you run your errands. Some brands to try are Reebok, Sketchers, and Fit Flops.

Using a self tanner on your body not only makes you look tanned and glowing, but also helps minimize the appearance of minor scars, stretch marks, etc. Self-tanners tend to leave unsightly streaks, so apply it with your lotion, making sure to rub it in well.

Nobody likes cellulite! Although there are many products out there that claim to get ride of cellulite, I found one that actually does! Nivea’s “Goodbye Cellulite” lotion used together with Nivea’s “Goodbye Cellulite” patches for six weeks will smooth out your skin. If you are patient and consistent, you WILL see the results. Check out Nivea's Products.

Also, before going into the dressing room to try on swimsuits, make sure to do your hair and make-up. This may sound silly, but the better you look, the better you will feel.

Here are some things to keep in mind to find the perfect swimsuit for your body type:
Small bust: Believe it or not, you want to draw the attention up. Try wearing a plain colored bottom with a bold patterned top as this will balance out your body. Don’t stray from selecting tops with an under-wire, as this will add needed shape. Go for one piece suits with extras like fun ruffles or beading on top. Stay away from bandeau tops, as these will flatten you out.

Large bust: Halter-tops are always a great fit and provide extra support where it is needed. Know that under-wire or a hidden bra is a must if your top is not a halter style. Stay away from triangle tops, as they provide no support. Websites such as Aerin Rose carry sizes up to a 38F.

Sexy Beach Bikini, Victoria Secrets
Straight Figure: Look for push-up and demi-styles, with ruched and ruffled tops to add curves up top. Flirty ruffled bottoms, cutout sides, and strategically placed graphics (like an oversized floral) can all add curves. Skip boring, black one-piece or athletic-type swimwear.

Heavy Thighs: Those with heavy thighs should look for suits with a high-cut leg as these have an elongating, slimming effect. Swim skirts are so cute and can camouflage problem areas. Avoid tight legs with elastic cutting into the thighs, as these create unnecessary bulges.

Large derričre: Women who are fuller on the bottom should avoid details at the hip such as patterns, draping, or ruffles because they draw attention to that area. Dark colors on the bottom with a patterned top will draw the eye up and away from the problem area.

Wide Hips: Larger prints and those with a dark color base will minimize the hips. Avoid tiny prints and small floral patterns and go for darker, single-block colors. Any kind of detail along the bust line will focus attention up and away from the hip. Also, teaming a dark bottom half with a printed top is really flattering.

Large Stomachs: Go for colors and patterns with a dark base, or if you prefer two-tone, then choose one with a darker color on the bottom and lighter on top. Bold florals and prints will distract the eye, and tend to camouflage your stomach. Avoid horizontal stripes, as vertical or diagonal are best. Suits with ruching (the fabric is gathered to create camouflage) are great, especially across the stomach. Alternately, go for a design which features detail at the bust, which then draws the eye upwards. Bikinis with boy shorts are more flattering as they fall below the stomach rather than cutting across it. A tankini will hide some of the bulges, but make sure and choose one that is long enough to finish over the shorts, and not halfway up the stomach.

Long body: Ruffled skirts and sarongs are made just for you! Hipster style suits work best as high cut briefs can make your long legs look even longer than they are. Go for low-cut rather than high necklines, as these tend to lengthen your body even more.

Fit Flop, Walkstar III
Remember, your clothing size will be different than your swimsuit; so don’t be afraid to go up 1-3 sizes for a perfect fit. Also, wedge style flip-flops will elongate your legs, making you look more slender.

Having trouble with your suit staying in place? Try this trick that beauty pageant contestants use: “Firm Grip”, is an aerosol spray used to keep their swimsuits intact and can be found at Queens Choice

Another thing, wear a floral perfume. Research has found that women who wear floral scents are perceived as thinner. And if you want to look magazine-cover gorgeous, sculpt your breasts, abs, and legs with “IT Cosmetics” waterproof bronzers and highlighters. Check them out at IT Cosmetics

Lastly, don’t forget to accessorize with sunglasses, sarongs, a cute beach bag, and invest in a pedicure. Nothing will ruin your poolside look faster than untrimmed colorless toenails.

Now that you’re a beach bombshell, go flaunt what you’ve got!
